Yellow Clearance Strips

Hey I recently just got a G35 Coupe 05' in DG (Diamond Graphite). Clean body, some paint chips here and there but nothing that makes it less then good looking. It is currently debadged, on 20' lexanis, switched out to clear sidemarkers and 6000k kaizen LED's on the side markers and clearance strips. However the LED while pretty bright don't cut through the clearance strip all the way down. It dims about 3/4 way down and becomes this nasty yellow. During day time it is also a yellowish tint. This bothers me like a muhfker but i don't exactly have the money to get persay projectors or new oem lights. Some people say you can bake the lights and kind of rub off the yellow but no guarentee.

My plan is to like.....smoke the lens on the outside on just the strip. Can i get some feed back. I want a hella clean car but this yellow thing just bites hard.

I had the same issue with my entire lights. both driver and passenger. A good sand and buffer might do the trick. Some people also try rubbing brake fluid on it. I opted for the oem projectors. Retroffiting them as we speak. Will post up before and after pics. If I were you first thing i would buy for your G is those oem projectors. The 03-05 lights really have an issue of hazing bad.

I've never heard of this break fluid trick. OP, Are they yellowing on the inside or outside? If it's the outside, just get a headlight restore kit from walmart. You might have to do it over every few months, but it's better than ruining your paint with break fluid. Wax or seal the lights after you finish to make them stay clear longer.

I recommend these 2 kits.

just a hair above 500 shipped. if you dont want to buy new try seeing any members are selling theirs in the marketplace. I personally have cleaned the lights so many times i was fed up with it so decided to upgrade to projectors. This retrofit looks amazing. As soon as they are installed ill post a pic or 2.

When I think about it, 500 for new headlights is kinda crazy...

... but I too have the yellowing strips. The rest of the asembly is crystal clear. I polish regularly.

I think that you could polish that inner yellowed strip, but it will only turn yellow again since it probably wasn't coated with a UV inhibitor.

My recommendation for fixing it is to remove and either: a) polish then coat with clear or b) replace with another type of plastic.

I normally would NEVER clear the outside of a headlight since I've heard it cause more problems later on than it's worth, but I think if it's inside the headlight then you have less environental concerns.

Let us know what you wind up doing.

The yellowing of the strip is inside, and no headlight restoration product or any product at all will solve it since it is the actual strip itself that is yellow, and not the lens. And the strip is inside the headlight.

OP I had the same problem, and I opened up my headlights, and painted the strip (along with the rest of the headlight). It looks 100x better as 1 solid color, and it kinda matches the color of my car too. Only problem is at night, the strip doesn't light up at all except 1 inch. Which I really don't care cause before it would light it up 3/4 and it would be yellow, and at least now, during the daytime, it actually looks good.

Here's pics. I also have a DG 05.

You can also maybe put an led strip down there to light it up completly, or you can not put a light there at all.

I would if i had the money get the 06+ projectors, but painting the strip was the next best thing for my budget.
