Q about tail light overlays

Hi guys
I'm awaiting delivery of my tail light overlays.
Do you guys remove the lights for installing overlays? Or do you do it on the car?

How diFficult is it to remove the tail light?

Thanks
Donald

This is a general question that could easily have been found with a little searching. It would be wise to do that before starting new threads

Remove the lights, it'll be easier to manipulate and stretch the film. Only 4 screws holding the tail lights in once you get out the trunk trim, very easy to take out. Also be sure you've got a heat gun and sharp razor blade or you'll be hating life. Tuck the corners into the crevice where the lens attaches to the casing (red meets black) for the best finish.

Remove ^ 2x... in my opinion if you have never done overlay or tint you may way just pay someone to do them, its not easy. I consider my self very tech/mechanic savy and struggle with this art. I just sprayed my tail lights, and would always spray over overlay, although overlay saves your original color/surface.
But if you want pictures of nightshade done on one I have a few of mine.

I agree, even our installer leaves them on the car, it's SOOO much easier to work with.

the overlays will require heating and some stretching to fit correctly due to the curves of the light itself. It's easier to do this while they're on the car so you can put pressure where you need and not worry about them wiggling around.
