Finally going to track my G...but how to install tow hook with aftermarket bumper?
Hi everyone,
So as the thread title says, I'm finally gearing up to go track my G! Very excited. But I just found out that at least a front tow hook (and preferably both front and rear tow hooks) is REQUIRED for the venue where I'm going to race! The problem is that I have an aftermarket front bumper (AIT, fiberglass) that totally covers the stock tow hook location. I saw that someone on here had posted about a fabricated metal piece that moves the tow hook location down 1.5", but I don't think 1.5" is going to help in my case.
So.....what do people with aftermarket bumpers do??? I *really* don't want to cut a permanent hole in the center of my beautiful bumper just to reveal access to the stock tow hook location, unless I have no other choice. I've seen pics of other cars with an aftermarket tow hook that has been affixed to a front/side location (approximately under the headlight of the car) so that it can stick out through the grille/mesh rather than the bumper itself, but wouldn't it be less than ideal to have one's car towed from a corner of the front frame rather than the center? It seems like the tow hook has to be midline to be effective, right??
I also can't find any information about anywhere to mount a tow hook on the rear of the car. I'm hoping that it could be done discreetly under the rear bumper somewhere...I have a stock rear bumper. If so, can someone please tell me exactly where (pics would be great) and what did it take to do it--i.e., bolting? Welding? And what kind of tow hook I should get (safest/strongest/coolest-looking, since it's apparently going to be on there permanently).
Thanks so much in advance for any additional information!!
