And its also better incase the body shop tries to pull a fast one and charge you extra because they "found" more rust behind the panel. But there often is more but if it was me I would want to see for myself.

 

For sure! That sounds good, so I remove the interior panel to gain access to this from the inside of the car? Just wanted to make sure, I'll have a go at this today and take a look. Thank you very much for your advice



What panel reveals the inner quarter?

 

Wait a minute when I did my speakers I remember there being bolts and I swear they bolted on a cover but in that pic I doesnt look like theres a cover? And I cant zoom in clearly on the pic... I wanna go pull my interior apart now its bugging me but its too dark. If you want to check any its easy to get the interior panel off. Just pull the bottom cushion out unbolt the seatbelt pull off the door seal and pull off the panel.

Hey Guys. Haven't gotten this fixed yet. I will most likely go for a fix as soon as the weather breaks at this point. Its starting to get worse obviously due to the winter weather and all the salt. My main concern is that I feel like if i spend a grand to get this fixed and it comes back right away, then i just wasted the money on nothing.

I kinda want to start grinding this down and cut away the nasty corroded metal to see how far it has to go, but then i feel like if i did that, I may be setting a body shop up for more of a mess when i cannot continue to replace it myself.

I can't believe a shop would have told you to replace the entire panel. I do rust repair on classic cars and what you have before us is NOTHING! I mean, as far as warranting as extreme a fix as a panel replacement.

If the rust started in the pinchweld as you say, then yes, that would have to come out. It would have to be cut out of the outer panel, most likely the inner panel too, patches made, and then those butt welded in and finished with a small amount of putty. Regular bodywork after that

This is not a major job. But it is time consuming. Removing and replacing a quarter would be way more work and completely unnecessary.

I'm not sure how willing shops are now to do patch panel
work. My opinion is, that's what you need.

I fixed my rust repair at jeff wyler honda of florence Kentucky. i was impressed with the results. it was around 12 hours of labor, 50 bucks an hour. after paint tax and all my total repair was 883. looks great.
