Hey everyone. A couple weeks ago with the icy weather I slid into a curb and cracked my bumper. I got a new bumper and went to put it on, Only to notice that my skid plate is hanging down and literally dragging when I drive. I looked under and noticed many holes and such in the skid plate. I figured, 'screw it, it's only pladtic' until I realized that the skid plate is what the screws from the bumper screw into underneath.... is this correct? That's sure what it looks like, and I don't want to take off the bumper until I'm sure I can secure the new one, which I feel like I can't on this skid plate... please help..

 

Look into the aluminum aftermarket one. Otherwise just get new plastic punches.

 

I think you can run with no splash shield (you're talking about the thing under the engine right?). A guy I know says he doesn't run his.

 

You CAN run none, but look at the bottom of yours.. it keeps your engine clean.

 

I'm gonna run without one for a month then upgrade to aluminum, simply because my car is 4 inches off the ground. I have another question as well. There are "wheel covers" that screw into the engine splash shield (what we referred to above) And extends up the wheel, what is this called? It's like a splash shield for the wheel. I heard a dragging noise, and pulled over to find my wheel cover under my car. I pulled it out but it can't be repaired and I don't know what it is called to order a new one.

 

Inner fender liner?

 

No, not the fender liner, the liner under the front of the bumper that goes length wise side to side.

I don't run one...never have actually. I live in SoCal tho, so its dry 95% of the time. It is part of the aero of the car tho, if that means anything to you. Without it, you get turbulent air under the front of the car and causes lift. Obviously not a big deal unless you're recording lap times.

 

Pretty sure in post #5 he is referring to the fender liner.

Yeah, definitely don't run without those. Parts geek has the fender liners for $13/ea.

 

Save up and get the metal skid plate, they look cool, and last longer. Bought my car used and it has a few small holes in it, so it has been dragged as well.
