Clear coat chemical burn
 

So my 06 G35 sedan has a several spots on the passenger side rear door, a spot on the driver side front fender, and some small spots on the hood of what looks like some kind of chemical burn.

They look as if something splattered the car and ran a bit eating up and damaging the clear coat in the process.

Light wet sanding made no difference, and if anything made it looks worse.

Polishing did nothing, and I'm a bit lost at where to go from here.


I'm not interested in repainting or applying a new clear coat, there's currently a huge dent near the rear passenger-side fender from a lady backing into me, and until it's fixed, I just want to find a way to made these spots less ugly.

Largest of the spots, this was the only one I attempted any kind of polishing or wet sanding, which made a slight difference, but started to make it looks worse.

Looks to me like the clear is etched too deeply to remove. And you are very limited with factory clear how much you can wet sand (about .5 mil) before losing the UV protection. If wet sanding and polishing aren't working at all, your only choice is a respray.

There are several things you could try, bottom line once the clear coat begins to fail there very little you can do except reshoot...sorry!
