What type of wood is used to make sub boxes?

I want to build some stuff in the trunk for mounting purposes...what type of wood is recommended to use? I need wood that is durable yet not too thick or heavy. Anyone?

ah...you are probably the guy I need to talk to...I want to cut out wood and fit it to the back of the rear seats so I can mount my amp/capacitor...is MDF what you suggest? Can I buy this at Home Depot? Thanks in advance

3/4" MDF.... make sure your screws aren't too long. measure twice...

3/4" MDF... Make sure you use carpenter's glue and Pre-drill screw holes
