Euro tail lights

I've been an automotive enthusiast for quite some time now. I've been working on my Civic for many many years. Back in the good 'ol days (pre Fast & Furrious), all honda tuners were respected. Muscle cars would even pull up to me and give me a nod... and say I have a nice car.
Then came F&F and all the R.I.C.E. that it brought along with it. If anyone said they had a Honda, they had to immediately defend themselves that they werent ricers. All Honda tuners got generalized as being ricers with neon lights and stickers. That generalization came from the RICErs!
Person: Hey Silverbolt, what kind of car do you have?
Silverbolt: I drive a fixed up Civic
Person: Oh man! HAHA! Let me guess, you have neons lights and a fart can muffler, huh?
What exactly is R.I.C.E.?

It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the entire bunch. Be careful, and dont be that bad apple!
Alright bringing a thread back from the past but I have an idea i cant find information about and this thread is the closest to it.
I know that with our tail lights, the plastic housing on the outside is like a red plastic. Does anyone know if it like stained red plastic or maybe painted from the inside?
What I would like to see is if there is a way to replace that red plastic with clear plastic and then paint the inside of the tail light assembly black. Think Acura TL type S tail lights.

Here is also a link to a DIY on some TL forums with a guy who modded out the tail lights on his TL with clear lights from older model. Look through the pictures and you can see the one with the older style tail lights with the broken red plastic. Looks to be like red plastic and im assuming for the G35 that it is the same.
Does anyone know of a way to possibly alter the plastic to be clear? maybe a chemical/heating process. I know its a long shot but i just think that would look freakin schweet man lol

interesting idea... but you probably can't remove the red I bet it's red all the way through... search midnightg35x and find some of his posts where he links to his photobucket and there are pictures of taillights with the covers off and you can get a good idea of what they look like underneathe and i think there are shots of the cover too.
The entire cover is red. Since it's just a single piece that is glued to the rest. It is not impossible to do what you describe. However, the stock LEDs are more orange than red. So the red cover helps it a bit. I could fashion up a set of lexan covers for the tails if anyone is really interested.
Thanks for the info guys! I found the photobucket album for midnightg35x and his LED modifications which look amazing! Here is a picture of a 06+ coupe tail light with the red lens taken off.

It looks like there is a lot more plastic inside the actually assembly than i thought. specifically around the reverse light and led lights. This would take a lot of experimenting with different options of where to paint on the inside to get it to look the best. Please chime in with any ideas you have about this.
I'm basically thinking of the GTR overlay but instead painting the inside of the tail light assembly, then with a clear plastic lens. IvoryGT, I would be interested in the lexan covers for the tails. Would you also be able to make the indented circles found on the 06+ tail lights?

Yes, and that could be done with first starting from a clear lens and painting the circle sections red. but now that i think about it more and more im also curious to see what it would like all clear. where its only red when the lights are on.
lol I have so many different ideas going through my head right now about this. I should start looking around junk yards to pull off a couple tail lights to work with.

ill try to ps something up and PM you later
^ lol I'm all ears!
Driving around lately ive been looking at S2000 tail lights and mazdaspeed3 tail lights. I really like the way the S2000 tails look with black on the inside, then individual colored lenses for each light. Especially the orange for the turn signal.
