Painted my Engine cover
Painted my Engine cover
I did this DIY a while back, but never got around to posting it. I no longer have it on the car, I have a CF one, but I'm curious to what people think.
I kinda messed up masking, i may repaint it just for the hell of it.
Tell me what you guys think. (Sorry, don't know how to reduce pic size)

yeah, just used regular spray paint. forgot what kind it's been so long, i'll post what kind of paint it is tomorrow. It held up good... no problems with heat. only thing is it gets dirty too quick.

yeap, I put clear coat on it... it looks pretty good in person. Only thing that sucks about white, it gets dirty too quick.
It's pretty much straight foward.
1. take off engine cover by removing 2 10mm bolts, and 2 10mm nuts.
2. mask the area you do not want painted.
3. use like 1000 grit sand paper and scuff up the area you do want painted.
4. spray the cover in primer. use light coats from about 12-16 inches away from the surface. remember to use light coats or else it will drip. use light coats... about 4 coats should be fine.
5. let the primer dry, and then use 2000 grit with water to wet sand out all the imperfections and highspots.
6. after wet sanding, dry off all the water and use prepsol or paint thinner to remove all the oil from the cover your hands may have left.
7. same as the primer, use light coats of spray paint. if it drips, it will look like crap.
8. after about 4-5 coats, let dry and then use clear coat. again, use about 5-6 coats of clear. do not let it drip.
9. let the clear coat dry for about 4 hours and your ready to put it all back together.
10. enjoy a nice cold beer while you sit back and look at your work and enjoy!
hope that helped.
