Replace chrome window molding? 05 Sedan

I just bought a new-to-me (used) 2005 G35 sedan. The only thing wrong with it is that the chrome molding below the from passenger window is dented. I'm planning on taking it to the dealership in a couple weeks to get some maintenance but wanted to see if anyone know how much a replacement chrome piece costs and if it's possible to DIY?

Thanks.

I replaced the chrome molding on the top of the passenger side window myself. Not too hard but you need patience. The part ran about $100.

Where did you get the part? I'm not even sure what those pieces are called.

It's called belt molding and your local dealer should have it - if not they can order it... approx $100 (part only, not installed) as stated above is about right. Since the car isn’t that old you might be able to have it replaced under warranty - depends on your relationship with your service department, I've heard some people complain about red tape for warranty issues - but many dealers are more cooperative... They will send the damaged part for evaluation to determine what caused the problem - not to see if warranty is valid, but to improve future design if necessary.

The only reason I know all this is because I spent about 6 weeks dealing with all sorts of issues regarding window trim/molding because I had mine removed, painted and reinstalled...

Good luck.

The belt molding is the piece that runs along the bottom of the window (top edge of door) - it has molded rubber... the remaining is just window trim I guess, that's what I call it. I believe it's polished aluminum, I don’t think it's chromed.

Anyway, I had a body shop remove all mine to paint. How they did it? I don't know, sorry. I will say this - If you plan on re-using it (as I did) be VERY careful! It bends easily... It's very thin aluminum - not ultra delicate but if you're not careful you won’t be able to re-install. That's why I had a body shop do it.
