Cool vertical doors: practicality? drawbacks?

several of my friends have discouraged me in changing to vertical doors (reasons include: unnecessary costs, possible door hinge/functioning fragility, awkward/tighter door opening, etc.).

however, there still exists a curiousity as to 'should i? or should i not?' and seeing as they maybe less experienced and/or more biased than the users on this forum, i've decided to ask anyone here for their oppinion/experience.

what exactly are the drawbacks for these vertical doors? i'm all for that 'shock factor' and 'uniqueness' aesthetic aspect--but not at the expense of risking a decreased quality in my door functioning. any thoughts? thank you in advance!

which kit are you thinking about getting?

The GT Factory Super Deluxe Kit sounds pimping, it has vertical door motors as well as side poppers. You click a button on your remote, the doors pop open to about 12 inches then tilt up to 90 degrees, that's PiMPIN. Seriously though i would imagine it might be prone to malfunctioning.

I personally don't mind the look, but the possible drawbacks are too much such as doors not lining up, rattle, leaks, etc. Besides, quality kits cost $1000+, which is just too much for my taste.

I've actually had one on my previous car (Audi a4 2003 model sedan) And I've had good results with them.

Pros :
Look good
Unique
People ask about it
I was the only one in the US with the doors on the new Audi A4s
Points at shows (since mine was a show car)

Cons:
Passengers could be idiots and not be careful with the doors
Adjustments may be required
Maintanance is required with some kits
Since mine was custom made all those adjustments were necessary
Kind of a hassle to get in and out if you stop and go places alot

Mine wasn't the best kit but it got the job done. I never had problem with doors not lining up or water leaking, that maybe just a myth?

Anyways good luck on your decision, but be aware that if you lift your doors anywhere you go, you're gonna get looks and it will be a headturner most definately.
