D side power outlet

D side power outlet

is it true there is no power to the driver side power outlet? i dont remember ever using it, except to light cigarettes...so im not sure. gonna try it later. if its true, is there a way to change it?

I ran into this yesterday while trying to connect my Varad LEDs using the "power" to the lighted ring around the driver side cig lighter. I didn't bother checking to see if it was lit prior to popping it out, but now that I look back on it, I don't think that bugger ever lit up. Once I got the cig outlet popped out, I pulled the outer bezel light ring and tested the wire leads with a meter and got zero. Tested the wires to the back of the lighter and got a solid 12v.

I just soldered two wires to the hot and cold terminals at the back of the cig lighter and ran them to a block under the dash. Now that block servers as my "switched" power connection.

I power my passport 7500 from the drivers side power outlet
every time I drive the car.
