shifter play

My shifter has a very tiresome up and down "play" it makes a soft clicking noise, I tried to wedge some plastic between the shifter bar and the handle without success. any one else have this issue?

I dont know what your exact problem is, but you can take the shifter handle off by pushing down on the plastic ring at the base of the handle. It will pop down/off. Then you can see the retainer clip that holds the shifter on. If this is where your play is coming from, maybe you can fix it.
