Are you sure it's not the spot to put the intelligent key? Like the G35x, if the battery on the intelligent is out, then you put it into the spot to be able to start the car.

Anyone know what I am talking about.

fog light switch. my authentic impul front came with one since it has fog lights.

You have to cut the black mesh out. Even if the inserts did fit in front of the mesh, that would not leave any room (between the mesh and the insert) to actually put the fog light housing. There would also be no way to attach the fog light to the car.

^ Maybe you're right? I wouldn't have guessed that Nissan would have you 'cut' out the black mesh, but if I think more about it, the fog lamp itself would need "room" as you put it, so ....yeah, I guess so? Hmmm. Weird!
