A/C problems

ight, Check me out.

(Live In South Florida, So Its Hott as Ballz)

Started Car One Day. When A/C was On, Squeaky Sound Came From Under The Hood. Sound Stopped When A/C was Off, And Would Start Again When I Turn IT On. Then Cold Air "STOP" Blowing From The Vents, Just Warm Air.

Took It to the Shop. Then said the Compressor is Shot and They Have to clean out Valves etc etc.

The cost in total w/ Parts, Labor, Tax, and everything is

> $ 1,400

Im saying thou, is this too much? has anyone else had A/C problems?
any info? any advice?

I dont driver the car everyday day. Maybe once or twice a week.

If worst comes to worst ... "Windows Down"

any advice?

Get a second estimate from a reputable shop... Yes, AC work can cost allot to do correctly; if you compressor did go bad and sent bits of metal through the system, you will need an accumulator, expansion valve, and the entire system flushed to have a proper job.
Get a second estimate for sure and good luck with this; it could very well be an expensive repair to do properly if out of warranty... How many miles on your G?

Im probaly gonna end up leaving windows down because i can think of a **** load of things i wanna do with $1,400

compressor shot? clean out valves???........ and they hinting that u need your compressor rebuilt?? haha....but on a side note....thats a major rip off............. compressor cost is 470+maybe another 100 in misc parts/freon, maybe another 100 to flush they system or so........ then 800 bucks in labor..... which even at the dealer would mean roughly 8 hours............ thats one hell of a rip off....... what shop did u take it too?....

usually compressors that go bad...make more of a ticking/knocking noise unless they came apart completly and locked up the pulley when the ac clutch is engaged........... when u turn on the ac now...does it squeal???

Man I hate that for ya', but I would have to go ahead and do it cause' I just can't take the Texas heat! But 40K, man that should be covered; bring it to the dealer! (or is it just power-train from 36-60K?, Dang, need to look that up... Someone will know)

what are the shops sayin is wrong with it?..... 1400 seems excessive.....a little over 1000 seems okay since the compressor itself is 500 bucks from infiniti...... assuming thats the problem...... did anyone remove the manifold lines to inspect for debris in ac lines?......

oh and i work on ac in my shop.....so im not just throwing things out there.... just what id do/reccomend for the car with the information i have on it...
