Auto vs. 6mt sedan center armrest

With the automatic loaner car that I have now, I notice that it has air vents coming out of the center armrest. The 6mt does not. Is it possible to swap these two sections out so that the 6mt has the vents, OR will the stick be in the way of having the vents come out the back? Do you think this could be done?

I believe it's the handbrake that's in the way. 5AT's have a foot pedal e-brake (and a larger bin for stuff in the center console).

I've been without my car for so long that I forgot all about that. Thanks.
