Install aftermark heated seat elements
DIY Install aftermark heated seat elements write-up
For those interested in installing aftermarket heated seat elements in their G, look no further. This is my first write-up and I apologize if some of the pics are blurry. I purchased my heat elements from Ebay “Universal Dual Pad Carbon Fiber Seat Heater Kit” $180 for the driver’s and passenger side. After the install my seats heat up within 5 – 10 mins on high. I’m currently residing in Mass. so these babies help out a lot! This project is very easy to accomplish with basic tools and takes anywhere from 2-3 hours or more depending on whether you want to take your time. Be sure to thoroughly read the instructions provided with the aftermarket heated seat elements. There’s lots of pics and if you have any questions, ask someone else…j/k feel free to PM and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Here’s what the heated seat elements look like right out of the package.

Wiring harness with dual color lighted switch HI/LOW, 10amp fuse and only 2 wires to connect… power and ground! SIMPLE!!

This write-up is for the front passenger seat.

There are only 4 bolts securing the seat.

There are covers on each of the 4 bolts. To get them off you’ll have to lift up and pull hard.

You will have to use a 14mm socket wrench to remove the 4 bolts.

There are 3 plugs you have to remove under the seat BUT first remove the negative from the battery, isolate with a rubber glove or rag and wait 5-10 mins or else the airbag light will come on when you re-install the seat.

Remove 2 screws from the front of the seat.

Remove 3 plastic bolts from the side mold trim.

Unclip 3 bottom seat fasteners.

Flip up the lower flap and slide the fastener out to the side.

Remove upper fastener.

This exposes the locking tab which you must push and lift up to remove the 2 headrest holders.

Remove 2 bolts and slide handle out.

Next is the daunting task of removing ALL the hog rings. I basically used pliers and ripped them out with my brute strength, lol.

I waged an epic battle with the hog rings and I remained the victor.

Top seat cover removed.

Remove 2 screws.

Disconnect

Pull out just enough to free up some room when working on the lower seat cover.

Remove 2 plastic fasteners and repeat on opposite side.

Unhook seat cover from all 3 sides.

Remove ALL hogs rings.

Use electrical tape to cover exposed metal where heating element will be placed.

Placement of top and bottom heating elements.

It’s very important to use heavy duty zip ties to replace all the hog rings that were removed!!

Reverse directions for re-install.

Side shot of the heating element wires hanging from the side.

Connected the ground to a screw in the middle console below the AT shifter.

Side shot of the harness connected with passenger seat installed.

Routing of red positive wire from middle console to fuse box.

The extra red wire is from the heated seat element from the driver’s side that was already installed.

I'll provide more pics when I have the heater switches installed.
There's a better version on Word which I can email. Just send me a PM.

I've never had heated seats before so I'm not sure how they stack up compared to other vehicles. The install was fairly easy but takes some time since I've never done this type of work, if I could do it (I'm not smart by any means) then anyone can. The first time took me 3 hours for the driver's seat and considerable less when I moved on to the passenger side. Be sure to do your research when deciding on what kind of heating elements to purchase which took me about a month. They come in really handy during the cold Boston winter. Let me know if you guys need additional help.

Opps sorry about that. The 2 swiggly lines represent HI (Red light) heat and the single line is LOW (Green). To turn off simply click the button to the middle. I basically used my biggest drill bit to punch a hole where the stock heated seat controls would be placed and then used a cone shaped rock drill bit (not sure of the technical description) to widen the hole.
