Frustrated G35 Owner...air bag problems

Has anyone had to replace their airbag module. I am having a nightmare and I can't wake up. I bought this 03 g35 with only 50k miles on it. The carfax report showed it was a one owner vehicle and no wreck history. Well once I bought the vehicle the airbag light came on. I took it to the dealership and they told me it had been in a wreck and need the right curtain airback replaced. The quoted me $1200 to replace the airbag and reset the module. I ended up taking the car to a body shop and they replace the airbag for less but I still had to take it to the dealer to have the module rest. Well the dealer then tell me the module is not responding and it needs replaced. They want $1200 to replace the module. So now I am thinking they just want some money since I did not take the vehicle to them to replace the airbag. What should I do? Is there anywhere in the Charlotte NC region I can take the car to have this look at to get a 2nd opinion? Any help would be appreciated. I attached a picture of the car.

If indeed it was in a car wreck of some sort, and CarFax reported it not to be, I believe CarFax is liable for their erroneous info provided to you the consumer, and offers to "buy back" your car or something of that nature due to guarantee of accurate information they provided you with. Not sure on the full details of this guarantee, but check out there website for further info on this.

Good luck!!!

That only applies if the accident has been reported to the DMV but doesn't show up on the car fax report. Since car fax gets their data directly from the variously state/province DMVs its a very unlikely scenario. The much more likely scenario here is that the accident was never reported at all.

If the police wasnt called to the wreck and there wasnt a police report then it usually wont go to carfax. I doubt theyll take responobility because its out of their control. If they dont get th info they dont know. Your pretty much SOL.
Dont have the stealership ever do repairs on your car. Thats like askng to give out extra $$. Theres always another shop that does the same work for half the price.

I never just rely on Carfax. My old car had been in a wreck (not my fault) police report and the other drivers insurance paid for the damage and all, but it was NEVER on carfax!!! This isn't the only time, same thing happend with my friends car.

When I went to buy my wifes car, it didn't show any wrecks, but I can tell if theres been body work done and it was in a minor collission on the fender and driver side door (nothing major), I used that to bring the dealer down like crazy and got a good deal!!

Once again, never rely just on carfax , get it inspected!!!

Another thing, I believe I've seen some services on Ebay that they reset your module for a real cheap fee, check it out. Just got to send it to them or something

(1)I now a guy that buys them from people that bring them in the shop and get totaled. Once they are called totaled he will buy them before they make the claim and register it that day with the clean title.

(2) You would be shocked at how meany people come in to the shop I work at and say " I just crashed my mom/dad/unlce/aunt/friends car, and I need it fixed before they fine out" They pay with cash and there for have no record of it.

(3) Good news for you and me is I have that air bag for sale

Haha cool good looking out.

How can I avoid this situation. I am using Auto Check and found a lot of cars that had frame damage that was not reported on carfax. I will of course take the car to an infiniti dealer for a check before purchase. Is this something they can find during there check?

^ yes if there good. I would take it to re-inspection station or a good body shop. Yes I know all the places I listed charge good money, but look at it this way. If the body shop charges $45 an hour (not sure were you live) if you spend $45-$90 you will know what your getting. Would you rather get a fvcked up car and save $90?

When you buy a car you should all ways ask if its ever been worked on for any reson. They have to tell you by law (only if you ask)
