Low Profile 5AT Shift **** and/or Modifications

Yep, looking for one...

Has anyone seen a shift **** for an automatic that sits very low to the center console?... the stock one is just too high for my preference... the only after market ones I have seen look to be roughly the same size.

Thank you in advance!

I'd be interested in this too. Only ones I've seen do sit high like the stock one.

yeah, still too high for my tastes... I've seen this and the newer model OEM version... both too high to warrant switching imho

I have the Razo RA89. It is much shorter than the others and I chopped down the shaft on the car so it sits even lower. I'll have to see if I have a pic.

Do the Razo ***** have push-button unlock in order to shift? The momo ***** have it on top.

Also, how did you chop the shaft... just hack-saw or pipe-cutter or did you machine a replacement one?

guess I never looked at the installation procedure... does the **** screw on or is it just clamped on...

it would seem I could just use the OEM **** and trim down the shaft if I can't find a more ergonomic, aesthetic and lower profile ****

Joker,

Did a quick google for GTR-R ... no dice... is it a Nissan GTR OEM part or an aftermarket deal or what?

Also, any DIY / pics / Vid on cutting the shift lever down?... I'll look around the forums in the meantime for it but didn't see any on my last few searches over the years

never mind..........I thought the GT-R has a same style shifter as G-35s but it's not.

Once the outside was short I worked on the inside. You can pull the white top off the metal pole.

For the inner pole that controls the shifting I cut it down to length.

After the shaft was close I worked on the white piece. I cut the bottom clip off and then shortened the top section. Took a lot of fitting to get both the center pole and the white piece to the proper lengths for perfect function. Used some 2 part epoxy for plastics to reconnect the clip and the top of the white piece.

Still need to go get some lube for the shaft and the white tip.

Jason,
Don't bother cutting open a ****, they will not be able to be modified to sit lower. Heres a couple of pics of my **** (that doesn't sound right, LOL)

If you want to take a look inside one just stick a small flat head into the top side of the button, it pops right out.

^The internals of the G35 shifter are a little different than your 2nd gen. The plastic tip actually inserts into the metal shaft instead of the opposite like yours. The general idea is the same though.

awesome... thanks for the post! I like that M35 shifter

I have a 1st gen coupe, not sure if there were many changes... but it seems pretty simple... I was thinking you had to take the lenght off the lower end then reconnect it to the transmission in order to avoid all the chop & re-glue portion... but there is certainly less disassembly chopping the top end than taking length off the bottom end of the lever.
