I just ordered a Kenwood 7140 and ordered the Metra kit for it. I noticed the kit’s buttons are very cheap and was wondering if I can use my original buttons replacing the ones that come with this kit? It looks that only two screws need to be removed to change this part. Have any of you tried this? Thanks for your help with this.

I have seen the Metra kits and as they are Cheaper than the JDM kits they are also cheap quality. My advise is return the Metra and get a JDM one.

Not sure if you can remove the Buttons but as long as they are the same i don't see why not. Good Luck.

 

Does the finish on the Metra Kit match the finish on the trim around the shifter?

mine looks fine and matches. yea the buttons look cheap cus theyre rubber and fat and stick out but thats not important to me lol. mine is silver btw

 

I have tried changing the buttons, It will not work.

 

Im hating the buttons too but I couldnt swing the 325 for just my vanity....not right now anyway...lol. Im going to color match mine to the exterior (LR) of my coupe.
