unlocking rear middle seat belt

I am replacing the middle rear seat belt and picked one up on Internet, but it is locked and won't retract fully to install. I actually bolted it in place, but it still will not unlock. Is there a trick?

I heard once lock that's it. I have a 2nd ten sedan w/ full rear seat belts still in working condition. Let me know if there is a trick. If not, then you can buy mine.

I actual found out how to unlock the belT. It has a plastic cover on both sides. One side says do not remove, but the other you can take the top off. Careful because the top has gears and other mechanisms. You see a ball bearing. Lift up on the piece of plastic that stocks into the gear, thus stopping the belt from releasing. i pulled mine all the way out and secured it with a metal clip the kind peopl use of big reports. I put the outside cap back on the side and it works like it should. Thanks for the posts.

well it is a safety device, and the way it is made once it locks that is it. if you want to take it apart and unlock it you can, but no guarantee that it will work the way it should. you can try junk yard and auto wreckers.
