Exclamation How to reassemble the ashtray on a 2006 G35 6MT Coupé

Hello!

How do I reassemble the ashtray assembly?
I'm mainly curious about what orientation the springs go back in.

Here's some background:
I was installing a dash-cam and used the 12 V socket from the ashtray.
Because the 12 V socket will be used and tucked away, I want to modify the ashtray to make a little cubby for miscellaneous items.

Cheers,
- Daniel K.

Neat idea, I'll check it out when I get home next week.

I was able to figure it out with trial and error.
Below are images of how the spring should be oriented in its final position.

To assemble:
  1. Place the spring similar to how its oriented in the second image below, onto the inner ashtray assembly. The image below shows the spring in tension, so when you originally place it, the short end will be at point "A" in the image.
Notice how the short end of the spring is closer to the body, and the long end is away.
  2. Insert the ashtray into its housing and insert the shafts to secure it.
  3. Position the long end of the spring as shown in the first image. Once there, secure it with a wooden stick or other tool.
  4. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to take the short of the spring current at position "A" to position "B". This is may be a bit tricky, but small needle-nose pliers should do the trick.
  5. You may now remove the bracing stick or tool used in step #3
