Help! How to remove plastic running boards?
Help! How to remove plastic running boards?
I need some help on removing the grey/black plastic running boards. I removed all the screws, but something else is holding it in and I don't want to break anything.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!

Re: Help! How to remove plastic running boards?
Got them off finally. There are plastic pin-like snaps that hold them in place, and they are hard as A$$ to get off.
A friend and I painted his rockers with a smooth truck-bed liner that flexes, does not have grit in it, and bonds extremely well with the plastic. The finish looks exactly like the original - kind of like a grainy-smooth look. All we used was a very fine roller to apply it.
After a good couple days of drying we took his car out on a gravel road to test the finish. Not a chip, scratch, or nothing. This stuff is as hard as rocks. The bond is so good it will NOT scratch off the plastic, it almost looks like it fused itself together. We also added some of that stuff just on the inside lip of the fenders as well for added protection.
I've already taken off and painted the small plastic rocker panels in front of the rear bumper on the G. The texture is almost the same as the original, just a very very slight texture. What I like most is it's a perfect black match to my paint! It's a semi-gloss finish and looks very good I think. It's what I was exactly looking for because my originals were gray.
Materials:
3M cleaner to remove wax, road oil, and adhesives (Walmart - $3.00)
Dupli-Color Truck Bed Liner (Walmart - $38.00)
Lowe's fine professional finish small paint roller and refills (Lowe's - $12.00)
Regards,
JC

One of the benefits of having a black car, sorry!
BTW - Everyone should somehow clean under those things. You guys can't believe how much crap those things collect! We recently had our streets tarred and chipped and a lot of little rocks, and I mean a lot, collected under there.
