I had the exact same thing happen in my 240SX about 6 years ago. The heater fan completely stopped working because there was soo much fur in the plastic catch-filter. When I removed it, the hair was packed soo tightly in there that it just amazed me. I must have pulled out enough fur to fill up a grocery bag once it was uncompressed.

I never did figure out if it was a family of mice, a rabbit, cats... or some other foreign engine-bay dweller.

There's got to be a way to install a more restrictive screen of some sort over the external air-intake for the vents so that rodents don't get in there. Now that I think about it though, I don't know if the animals were actually living in my air-ducts... because I find it more likely that they were just sleeping inside my engine bay at night and their fur would get sucked into the vents every day when I started it up, resulting in a gradual accumulation of shed fur in the intake filter.

lol...I had the exact same thing happen to me in my 95 maxima. All of a sudden no more heat was coming out....took out the filter and prob had the same reaction you did....gross...

uh.. dumb question..... where is cabin filter located?? and how do I remove them to clean it???? ... hopefully, i'm not the only one who doesn't know where that cabin filter is located.... :eek:
