HID lights help
HID lights help
I saw a post here by an individual that replaced his fog lights with some PIAA H4 8000 or something like that. I do like the look of two white HID lights instead of the white and yellow the car comes with. I don't know if these lights work fine as fog lights or it was just a "looks" thing. But I like to replace mine and need suggestions. I'm willing to spend up to $100 for a good pair. But I don't want to end up with a set up where the fog lights are brighter than the headlights, or a set-up where the fog lights are white but don't cut through the fog. What fog lights do you guys suggest that is of good quality, white and functional? One thought I had is that if my head lights can work as fog lights, then maybe I can buy something better and brighter for headlights, just a thought. Please help!
Re: HID lights help
I replaced mine with Sylvania Silverstars, model 9003. $40 for the pair. They don't match the HID perfectly but much closer than the stock fogs, and they are quite a bit brighter.

Re: HID lights help
i share your exact same feelings about the foglights. please keep me posted as i am going to wait for some more post before i waste my money buying something i dont like and have to pay a restocking or return shipping fee.
Re: HID lights help
I had a question for everyone on the forum. Has anyone put in those "HID upgrade kits" that have say anywhere from 6000k to 8000k light output? Do these kits just plug and play and if they do...anybody have any pictures of them on the G? Also what size is the socket for our HID's? (e.g. 9003, 9004, H1, etc.)

Re: HID lights help
I used PIAA Huper white LEDs to replace the little fog bulbs in the high beam housing (city lights) part no. 19263 wedge bulb typw -168 Model #H-263E
I replaced the high beams first with the Sylvania's SilverStar 9003's (terrible color!)
Then I switched out the Sylvania's for Euro Type-R Super White 4500K (H4 - TR-504) These match the Xenon's (once they warm up) so much closer and they are bright!!!
If you want some sylvania's, I'm seeling mine ( 3minutes of time on one of them) for $30 (includes shipping)

Re: HID lights help
Socalted, where did you get the fogs you ended up using, and what exact model are they?
My SilverStars are great for brightness, but they don't match the HID as well as I'd like.

Clarification
PIAA Huper white LEDs replace the little OEM fog bulbs in the high beam housing (city lights)
http://www.piaa.com/LEDs/LEDs.html

From the package sitting in front of me:
PIAAA part no. 19263
wedge bulb
type -168
Model #H-263E
I'm selling the crappy Sylvania Silver Stars
I had Vision Autosports in Hacienda Heights replace my bulbs cuz that had to remove my NISMO aero body bumper. (what a pain!)
I replaced my high beams with these:

cheers, ted

Re: Clarification
Ted, wouldn't the Super Whites (rated at 4350K) be a better match for our fogs? Also, I don't know how much to trust this site because of this statement regarding the 6000K bulb:
The xenon bulb provides more than twice the amount of light of a halogen bulb while only consuming half the power (wattage). Therefore, the driver can see more clearly, and the car has more power for other functions. Moreover, it is environmentally friendly, as less power means less fuel consumption. In practical terms, the life span of the bulb is equal to that of the car, which means that bulb need only be replaced in exceptional cases. The clear white light produced by the xenon bulb is similar to daylight. Research has shown that this enables drivers to concentrate better. Furthermore, this particular light color reflects the road marking signs better than conventional lighting.
That statement is full of BS. But if the light works, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Re: Clarification
more clarification...
ok - the LED is for your "city lights" or parking lights....
The Euro's were for the "fogs".
I took some pixes tonight of the lights with various combinations of off/on, however, I left my floppy drive at the office (I have a mavica digi-cam). I will upload tomorrow. Maybe "BS" on the market copy, but I was pretty happy with how they actually look vs. the Sylvanias. I had just run to Kragens and bought them while the guys were doing my springs. they installed them and we all looked at eachother and decided that it didn;t match. they pulled the Euro's from their stock and said "try these". I did and told them to do the other side.

Re: HID lights help
ozracer
I putted and 6000k HID H1 conversion kit, but my car didn't come with Xenon HID and it use H1 type bulb for the low beam and H4 for the foglight , It seems that your car has the HID so in your case if you want a higher K's you just need to change the Xenon Capsule(bulb) I think the Bulb type is D2S ot D2R, I recommend you the phillips Ultinon 6000k,
Xenon capsules higher than 6000k are more bluish but less bright (higher kelvins= less lumens)
Also for those who replace the Foglights with Blue Coating Halogen, do you really like them? Don't you hate the blue reflection on your headlamp during the day when the lights are off?

Also...Ted....
I think the city lights you are reffereing to are only in the G sedan...i'm not sure if they are in the coupe.....either that or i've never noticed them in my coupe. I think that explains the confusion.
