HID Kit: Good Deal?

I've been looking for 6000 to 8000K HID conversion kits and came across this site.

http://www.groupbuycenter.com/buy.aspx?id=8662

The price is really great, but I would like to get some opinions about the product and reliability of a group buy since many people in this forum probably have more experience than I do. If the feedback is good, I'll go ahead and purchase! Thanks..

find out who manufactures the bulbs first.. if it's not an asian brand like taiwan or korea, i'd stay away from them. those bulbs tend to last only hundreds of hours if even that instead of the thousands some sites claim HIDs last. osram and phillips bulbs are great (although not actually made by them, having their label on the bulbs is a good indication the bulbs will be good)

Also make sure the ballasts are Hella or Phillips. CATZ now makes their own.

Re: HID Kit: Good Deal?

maybe I'm missing something - HID = High Intensity Discharge, right? That means you've got "bulbs" that are really gas (xenon?) filled compartments that're ignited when you flip the switch for your headlights, right? what's this talk of bulbs?? those sound like the HID look-alike bulbs - if you're going that way, I'd suggest Silverstars. Very bright, and probably best deal for the $$... If you're talking about the REAL HID, then I've got no idea for the G, but welcome pictures of the setup.

even though it's HID, they still call them bulbs.. or HID "capsules" if you really wanna get technical. the part that actually emits the light. we're not talking about plasma or halogen bulbs..

Re: HID Kit: Good Deal?

They are claiming Hella....

The 7500K kit will give you a blue beam on the ground...it won't match the the OEM HID's in color

If you decide to go ahead with this, spend the extra money on the "hi-low" kit.

You can buy the D2R bulb separately and swap them on your G

Re: HID Kit: Good Deal?

Is the "hi-lo" kit the same as the "HELLA 7500K HID Dual Beam H4 Conversion Kits" listed in the site?

Also, does anyone know any other sites or places I can get HID kits, preferrably Phillips or McCulloch, for a good deal?

Thanks for your help guys..

Re: HID Kit: Good Deal?

i don't think hella carries bulbs higher than 6000K. hella and phillips only go that high.. any higher and you lose the functionality of what HIDs were for in the first place. if you're going for brightness, stick at around the 4100 - 5300K range.. if you want the blue look, 5700 - 6000K. 7500K to 12000K are a waste and are probably made by small companies that don't produce quality products. be careful with bulbs that have a blue coating to them.. that lowers the lumens as well.. i think a good kit to get is the 6000K phillips ultinons.. they have them at autolamps-online.com and southwestautoworks.com..

Re: HID Kit: Good Deal?

How's the installation? Is it difficult? How long does it take?

I'm asking because I found a deal for Phillips 6000K Ultinons for $550 including installation. Wondering if I should take up on it.. thanks!
