HID Flicker...question

I noticed on the 06 Coupes and up with the HID projector lights, ,that it does not have the same 'purple/blue flicker' from different angles like BMWs, and Audis do. What causes that?...and how come the G's lights don't have that?

it is because the 06 projectors use a fresnel lense which has ridges on it which blurs the cutoff and results in no color at the cutoff to cause the flicker effect you see in other cars. Alot of newer projectors are going towards this route. The only way to get the flicker effect is to open up the headlights, and swap the fresnel lense for a clear lense such as from a tsx projector, and mod the shield for some color.

You can always do a color mod to get that wide color beam.

wonder why the Infiniti line of projectors for all the models don't flicker...but most Euro cars' projectors do...weird...I like that flicker affect...seems too much trouble.

alot of newer cars no longer flicker, and fresnel lenses are becoming more popular because a super sharp cutoff can cause eye fatigue. Having no color doesn't decrease output any, so its really an aesthitic thing. That being said, I'm in the process of doing the colormod, and IvoryGT does it for a fee, PM him if you are interested.

+1

IvoryGT is the go-to man for this stuff. He just did a sick set of 06 projectors. He helped give me advise on the S2k and TL quad projectors I have on my sedan. Great guy!

DOT(US) is more strict than ECE(Europe) It's not before long they will make European cars confirm DOT specs.

Basically the flicker comes from the split second of time that the color from the cutoff of the projector is seen. If you have slight color on the wall or on the ground at the distance it will flicker. If you have no color at all, it will just appear white. If you have too much color from a thick color band, you will have a consistent color at a distance (blue or purple) and it will not flicker because of how much color there is.

So it's up to your own preference. Read up on the color mod on my sig and you too can make your car lights flicker.
