i have 04 lights currently on my car and the left one has been acting up. a couple weeks ago the low beam wouldnt turn on (high beam works just fine). then all of a sudden later in the week it worked. i tightened the bulb a little bit and made sure the wires were properly connected. but over these past few days it hasnt been working again. the housing looks like it has mildew or at least some moisture inside. there could be some wire problem as well. also, it seems that the light hasnt been working around times of rain.

ive been thinking about getting 06 headlights for some time but ive been trying to push it back since i'd rather put the money to other things. though i dont want to be driving with 1 headlight. a good seller of mine has been offering me 300 for the 06 headlights installed. im not sure if he is going to trade them out for mine or what. whether i trade mine for them and pay 300... is it a good deal?

 

including ballasts? that's a sweet deal. If $300 installed is for everything working then jump on it.

 

Are they new or used, pre recall or post?

 

either way that is a good deal, just make sure that he aims them after the install

 

they're used i believe but they come with everything.

Heck yeah +1! I recently got my set off Ebay for about 215 shipped but they came with brand new 85122+ Phillips d2s bulbs! I can even swap them with my other set of 85122s that are already colorshifted and sell these bulbs if anyone's interested...

 

Just keep a close eye on ebay. We bought a set of 06 for less than $200.

This may be a stupid question, but what exactly is the ballast?

Electronic ballasts usually change the frequency of the power from the standard mains (e.g, 60Hz in U.S.) frequency to 20,000 Hz or higher, substantially eliminating the stroboscopic effect of flicker (100 or 120 Hz, twice the line frequency) associated with fluorescent lighting (see photosensitive epilepsy). In addition, because more gas remains ionized in the arc stream, the lamps actually operate at about 9% higher efficiency above approximately 10 kHz. Lamp efficiency increases sharply to about 10 kHz and continues to improve until approximately 20 kHz. [1] Because of the high frequency of operation, electronic ballasts are generally smaller, lighter, and more efficient (and thus run cooler) than line frequency magnetic ballasts.

 

Check out www.car-parts.com for a local yard nearby that may have a set and just snag those. Keep in mind you may end up paying a little more though
