Hood light

Is there a underhood light on our G's. I opened mine in a poor lighted situation for the first time and imediately noticed there was no light. I looked and looked and could not find one. Am I missing something here? I did a search under hood lights and found nothing. I also reviewed some of the old posts concerning the oil dipstick, because I was not able to get mine out. It seems that you have to push slightly right, twist and lift. I'll try that, but like all the old posts, it seems that you will break something. Is there anything new on this or is just a hard tug? In regards to the tranny dipstick which you have to remove a retainer to get to, is this recommended to check on a regular basis.

Re: Hood light

there is no light under the hood, at least not on the coupe.

try pulling the oil dipstick to the right a little when you pull it. It often gets stuck in there.

Re: Hood light

I don't think there is light under any cars' hood from the factory. I never seen it myself at least not from any of the 15 cars I owned.

Re: Hood light

Just have to ask, where you get this idea from?

Re: Hood light

I remember my dad's car in the 80s Datsun (before Nissan) 200ZX had light bulb under the hood.
I wouldn't mind having this feature in my G35 as well.

Re: Hood light

How about a bunch of white LED's that turn on when you pop the hood? That would be slick.

Re: Hood light

I'll trade you the hood light for lifting hinges! (That prop rod is worthy of a Honda Civic!)

Re: Hood light

what leds did you get. i went to radio shack last night but they didnt have enough of the 2600mcd ones. i was thinkin about using four leds 2 on each side. what are you using as a switch? i got a tamper switch that is off when you push it down and on when you let go. was goin to try to see what i could come up with today and maybe make a diy for it. let us know how it turns out

Re: Hood light

Although I completely agree with you about the prop rods (I hate them as well). I also happen to know the reason we have them on our Coupes vs a strut. Two words, Aluminum Hood. Due to the fact that the hoods on our car are made out of aluminum, that makes them far more fragile compared to a steel hood. The logic was, if something went wrong, either with alignment, or something getting caught, the pneumatic lifters (struts) would essentially buckle the hood. Can not say just how true that really is, but that was the logic the designers used...

Just FYI.....

I know someone at Infiniti who actually discussed this with factory reps & then explained it to me.

Re: Hood light

Better to have a prop rod hood and struts on the trunk than to have struts on the hood and gooseneck hinges on the trunk....
