Can the "dual ring" taillight mod be done?

What's up fellas, I know most have seen speedraver's photoshop pic of both tail rings being lit. How hard would it be to accomplish this and have the "squarer" LED section be the turn signal? Just wondering if it could be hacked and switched somehow...

Is the inner ring and squarer section one unit or something?

Thans for helping out a newbie to lighting/wiring.

It can be done but will require quite a bit of work to get it to look right. The first issue is getting the outer ring to appeear the same brightness as the inner ring. This is difficult to accomplish because the inner ring LED's have a reflector to enhance the light output. You could possibly hack up an extra pair of tailights to salvage the LED reflectors, along with the LED's so that the intensity could be closely matched, then the ring would have to be reconstructed in a smaller diameter to accomadate the smaller space. There is also a circuit board which delays the LED's so that they light up at the same time as the incandescent bulb in the outer ring currently that would have to be either removed/bypassed or added to the outer ring. This project will require at least 2 pairs of tailights, and quite a bit of electrical circuit analysis experience.
