LED Lights?

OK so I dont know much about wiring. But I want to ad some LEDs to the interior of my car. I know where I can buy a kit that works with 12V but can I just clip the wires to a lighter? I want it to look factory so I dont want an adapter hanging out of the socket.

Do I have to disconnect the Bat for this? Is 12Volt what is typical?

Re: LED Lights?

You can check with some of the electronic supply places. 'Super bright' LEDs will be reasonably priced and then depending on how many you want to connect in series together, you'll also need a resistor in-line. The guys at the electronics place should be able to help you out. Then it's just your soldering skills that you need.

Yeah get some of these and one of these and your all set. Unplug the negative terminal from the battery before you start or you will pop the fuses and have to go buy more. Then strip about 1/8th of an inch off the end of the wire. Stick the wire into the butt-connector (far enough so the plastic shielding also goes into the silver sleeve). Crimp. done.

Depending on how custom you're planning on getting, you should check out the LED products available from Varad. I have a 6" Blue LED bar under each of the front footwells, and they look great! I bought them from www.sounddomain.com. Very friendly customer service.

Re: LED Lights?

If you are willing to wait a couple of days, I'm going to have a complete DIY guide on how to install interior mood lighting with LEDs or typical automotive lights. Complete with pictures on how to take the dash apart and which wires to tap into. I plan to finish this project tonight, and it should be up on g-owners.com soon after that.

Re: LED Lights?

Hopefully they will be online by the end of this week. But here is a sneak peak of my personal setup.

Re: LED Lights?

Is this what you all had in mind? This is what my instructions will show you how to do. However, I can't seem to find a good place to put the LED for the rear passengers. I did show a couple of ways to run the wires back there. Any suggestions on where to position the LED for the rear?

Re: LED Lights?

Re: LED Lights?

I have one of the front compartment LEDs attached to the drivers seat. That is easy to do because there is plastic which you can drill/glue/tape the LED to. With the rear of the seats, it's all cloth underneath. It is possible to cut a hole through the cloth to mount the LED, but depending on the seat position, the cloth under there folds and expands, thus changing the angle of the LED.

By the way, this is for the coupe. I have no idea about the sedan. The sedan may pose better locations for rear LEDs. But the instructions should be the same with running the wiring back there.

Re: LED Lights?

You could possibly try using some Velcro. Attach some velcro to the bottom of the driver/pass. seat and then use a glue gun and glue the LED to the velcro with some Clear glue, i think that should stay put. May need to find some hardcore velcro though, so that when someone sits in the back they dont just kick it off.

Re: LED Lights?

Pesti, I think your monitor is too dark. It's my floor mat:

It's pretty easy to do. Just side lighting etched glass with LEDs.
