for those that have clear corners

Any suggestions bout keeping the amber light with the clear corners? The amber bulb sticks out like a sore thumb in the clear corner. Someone mentioned dipping the tip in aluminum paint .... ehh ... tried that ... not so good idea. Anyone know of either a clear or aluminum 168 bulb that shines amber?

Re: for those that have clear corners

Why not just put the clear bulbs in there? That is what I did and haven't had a problem ever since (they have been installed for about 6 months now)

Re: for those that have clear corners

yah, thing is, don't want to attract unwanted attention from coppers. I believe that here in CA, clear turn signal is illegal ... but then again ... so is the tint and missing front license plate ... hahahah. Anyways, jus don't want to give the po-po's another excuse to pull me over.

APC has Titan silver / amber bulbs. Anyone know where I can find any of these for a decent price. or suggest any other bulbs?

Re: for those that have clear corners

I used to get hassled for frivolous crap like that in California by asssclown cops with a penchant for enforcing the ridiculous vehicle code.

Plead ignorance. "I bought it this way" usually seemed to work for me.

"Don't you have anything better to do" always seemed to generate a negative response, but I found it amusing on several occasions.

Good riddance California! Whew!

Re: for those that have clear corners

I thought Phillips/Osram had a clear bulb that was amber color when lit....I might be wrong on this one...
check there web site........I think thats where I saw them...

It may have been only the blinker bulb that I saw...I don't think they made it in a wedge type bulb that we use....

I put in Piaa exteme whites.....problem is they look blue when off....so far no hassles from law enforcement, and I'm in New Jersey.....Our men in blue show no mercy either most of the time....good luck with your search...post if you find what your looking for, I myself may change them out as well....thanks.

Re: for those that have clear corners

On our s2k my hubby masked off the back half of the amber bulbs and painted the tops of the bulbs with high temp silver paint. When you look at the bulbs they match with their surroundings (ie you don’t see amber bulbs) but when they’re on, they still look amber. I think it came out nice!

Here's mine with the yellow bulb in place. Not so bad, and legal.

Re: for those that have clear corners

Check this out. I could make them for you using all amber, so they will be clear, but emit yellow/orange light.

Lots of places sell those silver/amber bulbs.

or you could have custom LED wedge bulbs made. The guy who makes them, uses the brightest LEDs on the planet. I had him make me blue and white LED wedge bulbs. He hasn't done amber yet, so he doesn't have any pictures to give you a color representation, but it shouldn't be off by too much if it is.

Ask him about using the Red/Orange emitter.

You could also check out the APC lights. I saw that they have some that are chrome finished while off, and then light up amber when on. I think they had a 168 bulb for them.

Re: for those that have clear corners

They're called Philips Silvervision bulbs. I've modded some to fit in earlier G20's front turn signals...

Re: for those that have clear corners

I used the white bulbs from the orange corners.

I thought they would only pull you over if you had flashing white lights. The clear corners dont flash unless you mod them, I was always under the impression that white was legal unless it flashed.

I could be wrong though...

Re: for those that have clear corners

uhh ... mine flash now. Super easy mod ... also replaced corner bulbs with Polarg ... they're multi-colored shiny on the outside and shine amber. Will post pic later.

Not to steal the thread on this one but I just found some chrome coated 194 amber bulbs on ebay. I just got them and they work great.

Re: for those that have clear corners

I believe in California...
your sidemark must have an amber reflector , so even a clear corner/sidemarker w/ an amber bulb technically wouldn't save you (i've been ticketed for this formality in my former car). Your front turn signal (ie. facing straight forward) can blink white and can be a white bulb. It's the sidemarker that's the kicker
