Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

Does anyone know, or have they installed HID's in their sedan even if they did not get their car with them from the factory? And what brand would you recomend? can you just order them from Infiniti and have them put on?

I ordered mine through tire rack, i got the PIAAs extreme white for $75, you could also go for the Sylvania's and you can get those at any Pep Boys. I replaced them myself and it was really easy. there is a thread here in the DIY section. Do a seach in there and you'll get it. I took my front tire off to do it, some people have said that all they did was turn the wheel and remove the inside fender part, but it is much easier if you remove the tire.

I had an early model sedan that had halogen stockers. I put in a philips hid kit and it made a big difference. Philips is the best way to go imo.

You'll need to get a H1 compatible kit. You could have the dealership install it if they are mod friendly but it really isn't that hard to diy.

I would try ebay or hid-online.com (which is where I got mine.)

So you just took your stock headlights, changed the bulb and that was it??? even though they wern't HID's to begin with? I'm sorry if I seem a little nieve, but i am new to modding my car. If it is that simple....

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

No. It depends on the kit but a typical kit will have 2 ballasts that may or may not contain the ignitor. If it doesn't, you'll have 2 igniters also. It will have 2 wiring harness, one for each side, and 2 hid bulbs. The wiring harness will have a red power line that goes to the + battery and a black - wire that you have to ground on the chassis. It will also have a switch that will attach to the prong that went into the h1 stock bulb. You will have to drill a hole in the cap right behind the stock bulb to run a couple extra wires from the ballast but that isn't too hard either.

If you live somewhere in the NW, I can help you put it in. The kit should come with directions though and if you're reasonably mechanically inclined, you should be able to diy.

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

I would suggest Ebay, as H1 HID retro kits are increasingly difficult to find as they have become illegal for road use in a vehicle not originally equipped with HID. Legally, you cannot install a HID bulb/ballast in a housing not designed for such. To be 100% safe you would need to get the whole headlight setup (housing, reflector, bulb, ballast, etc. $$) from a wrecked G35 and install it.
However, if you don't care and can find a retro-kit the Philips and the Catz are both good.
I have a cheap kit with a Hella ballast that I found on Ebay and it works great, except the light is slightly purple at 6000K (factory is 4300 I believe). I think the new law is bogus because if you take the time to properly aim the headlights the HID's do not offend anyone...I have never been flashed.
The installation is quite easy should you go the retro-fit route with your existing housings.

Kool! Thanx for all the good info. I didn't know if it was just a matter of buying a bulb or a whole kit with a ballast and all. Nad Yes I meant Xeon headlights, but I think I have all the info now. Many thanx and I'll let you know what I get!

take them from maximas. Thats what alot of ppl been doing. jk. I would try to check junkyards, Aftermarket HID is not the same. The beam pattern is usually off, unless you have headlight housing designed for hid.

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

I am a little confused. For G35, there are stock HID and the fog light/high beam. I don't think G35 does't come with HID. I think that guy is talking abuot the FOG light...
I poped in a pair of PIAA xtreme white plus into my fog light.
For the real HID, Can i just buy a Philip 6000K H1 bulb to replace it?

Hey Kelven33033: Sorry i am probabably explaining it wrong, I guess you would call them Xeons, the REALLY bright lights (some look purpleish) So I guess it is either replace the bulb or buy a HID kit?

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

The early model sedans did not come standard with HID's unless you got the premium package and spent another ~$500 for them. The fog and high beam h4 bulb has always been halogen.

If you have stock HID's, then all you would need are the ultinon bulbs. They would be a D2R though and not an H1.

All Canadian Gs came standard with HIDs since the beginning.

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

ok, let me clear up the confusion. Xenon bulbs = bulbs that just produce white/blueish color. They DO NOT enhance your lighting output, in fact, it reduces your lighting output. Some of these bulbs have a blue or purple tint on the bulb to produce the "blueish" effect. I would not recommend going this route for your headlights because: 1. They break easily 2. they reduce your lighting output 3. they are cheap looking compare to real HID kits 4. some draws more power than stock bulbs which is bad.

Then there is the xenon kit which is like the OEM setup with ballasts, ignitors, and real HID bulbs. Going this way is some what cheaper than buying factory ones and better than buying the xenon bulbs because it acutally increases your lighting ouput. However, since your headlight housing is not designed for HID's, your lighting output will have hotspots. These hotspots are glares produced from the headlight housing. The hot spots can be reduced once you adjust the angles of your lighting. However, these have their downfalls too. 1) the light pattern is still not as good as OEM 2) hotspots can blind drivers on the incoming traffic 3) some what illegal

So its basically down to this. Do you just want the blueish look from your headlights? or Bluish look with acutally lighting improvement?

Re: Sedan HID's, Where to get them?

Also, with real HIDs and colour temps above 6000K or so, the actual lumen output is usually reduced. So if you want that purplish-blue fringe that's seen on projector style HIDs, you're out of luck unless you want to further compromise your light output.
