Question about painting headlight housings

I'm wanting to paint the headlight housings on my IP 05 coupe. I'm trying to come up with a black/red scheme to go with my rims. One idea I had was to paint the entire housing black, but to paint that center cap that goes right over the light bulb red. Making it look kind of like an evil red eye or something. Am I allowed to paint that bit or will it affect the light beam somehow?

Any other ideas for a 2 tone black/red theme on 05 lights are welcome too.

If you wanna go with a 2-tone theme, get yourself some 06/07 projector headlights.

You can do something like this or visa versa
