Headlight help!! Please help asap!!

Mod's please leave this here for a bit. I need help asap! I already posted it in the lighting section but I got no help! Thanks!

As a lot of you know I got a pair of 03/04 g35 sedan HID headlights. Everything was in working condition and I got them done up by Chris (g35papa) over in Cali. They came out GREAT. He painted them flat black and cleared out the turn signals. Couldn't be happier. Anyway... I've been having a problem with these headlights smoking inside the lense! I don't know WHAT is going on. I replaced the fog bulbs with luminics jdm H4 bulbs last week and they ran EXTREMLY hot and I saw the smoke, so I opted for some better bulbs and got some PIAA 2500k H4 bulbs. Same thing... the headlights still smoke up when they are on and get heated up. My hands/body NEVER came in contact with any bulbs, as I made sure of that. I don't know what else it could possibly be! The only thing I can think of is the headlight bulbs are bad from the previous owner or bad ballasts or something. I have no idea. Anyone got any suggestions? I hope someone has an answer quick. I am terrified to drive at night as use the lights! Thanks in advance for any ideas/comments/opinions. PLEASE HELP!

Also, how would I go about wetsanding the lights? THey have a LOT of scratches on the lense. you can tell mainly when the lights are on. There are lots of scratches in certain areas. Anyone have any idea how to fix that???

just talked to my friend... he said it sounds like the positive and negative are touching somewhere or something is grounding out. the high wattage bulbs could have melted a part of the harness from the luminics bulbs I tried. Ugh. ANyone else have any other ideas?

I remember reading about another guy who had the same problem with aftermarket bulbs. IIRC, he ended up reinstalling the OE bulbs and they ran a lot cooler and the smoking stopped.

I hope this helps.

I did the same thing man. I put the oem fog bulbs back in and the smoking did stop. I just don't get why EVERYONE can run aftermarket bulbs and I can't. Make's no sense. Something has to be wrong.

Thanks for the input though

I decided to throw in my stockers for now so I don't cause any damage if any damage was happening. No more smoking with the oem bulbs back in so I'lll roll with them for a while. Just strange how I can't put an aftermarket bulb in my headlights while everyone else can!

Yeah, this doesn't make any sense Chris. I hope you find a resolution for this dude. It I couldn't mod my car the way I want to, it would surely bother me as well

Good luck!

http://www.eautoworks.com/product-KYO-33146.htm are these good?

I don't want to risk melting anything IN the headlight though. I would be running PIAA 2500k H4 bulbs. Many people are using them on here so I don't think it would melt anything... right?

I think it may be the H4 wiring harness. Even today with the stock bulbs in, I drove on the way there with both fogs and HID's on... smoked. When I drive back, just used the HID's... no smoke. I don't know what it can be.

Could the heat from the fogs be "cooking/igniting" the paint fumes in the headlight? Was "high temp" paint used? What about running an aftermarket 3000K HID kit? They are only 35w, but I don't know if that would make them run cooler.

Just thinking out loud.

Could be the fumes, however a high temp was used. Chris (g35papa) did them for me and I am running the EXACT same piaa fog bulbs that he is using. He also has the same painted headlights as me.

I did think about going with an HID kit, but I don't want to blind others. The only thing I can imagine the problem being is the H4 wire harness is shot and causing it to smoke. Wondering if I upgrade the harness to a higher wattage/powered harness it would solve the problem.

I really think an upgraded H4 wire harness would do the trick. Anyone got any ideas if I could be right? Also, anyone got any reccommendations of a good heavy duty H4 wire harness?
