another quad projector retrofit

Just some pics of a project I'm finishing up. This will probably be the last G35 retrofit that I'll do, since my wife had a baby 2 weeks ago, and most of my free time will be spent with them.

This is 06 G35 coupe lights with E30 clear lenses for the upper projectors. X5 projectors with purple clear lenses for the fog light. The small city light bulb was replaced with a strip of LEDs in the signal light area.

The orange signal bulb will probably be replaced with a clear or blue bulb later. It's creating an odd color combo.

Unfortunately those plastic lenses kill some of the cutoff and color. This is one headlight powered by a computer power supply on my driveway. I'll install the lights on the other member's car next weekend.

Both top and bottom projectors.

In the meantime I'm working on putting a set of SC430 +300zx clear lenses into my wife's camry. She also wants me to install a back up camera on her car.

I love the use of stock chrome and matte black.

And the use of the Matsu ballasts fitted to a reducer.

Sure thing. I don't mind sharing my experience on this. I've already realized that I could make the same amount of money putting in two extra 4 hour shifts at work, rather than spending 6+ months here and there on a retrofit.

1. If you're going to do a quad projector retrofit, it's much easier to start with the 06 lights. It took me forever to do the alignment on my quad projectors in 03 lights. With 06 lights, you just have to mount a lower projector and align that with respect to the upper projector. Way easier.

2. To attach the lower X5 projector, I used half of the stock fog light reflector as a mounting bracket, retaining the OEM aiming mechanism. The other half was secured with a 5 mm bolt with locking clip. See purple arrow:
.
This process with be much easier if IvoryGT sells premade mounting brackets.

3. Here's a pic of that setup. I used the mounting nuts from a 03 lights assembly, cut a square hole into the side of the X5 projector's bracket.

Those mounting nuts (purple arrow) are set up so that you can have a few degrees of horizontal and vertical adjustment.

The locking clips (green) and 5mm bolts (red) can be purchased from mcmaster.com. With this setup, I can adjust the L/R aiming of the lower projector as well.

4. LED work is insanely easy now with premade LED strips. I get mine from oznium.com (yellow arrow)

It's what I used in my side lights on my own car (this is NOT a pic of the above set of headlights)

Thanks. That brings me to:
5. I just use a 3" PVC pipe from home depot to create extra room behind the lower projector and to create a waterproof method to mount the second ballast. Very easy stuff.

6. I buy my lenses from the forsale section of hidforum. I have several clear lenses sitting in my computer room. It's A LOT easier to color mod if you can rig a computer power supply to light up your HIDs, rather than trying to power things up with your car.

All the materials I listed are pretty cheap. It just takes time and imagination to get this done. I'll take more pics once I install them next week.

Great work E_K. Looks awesome! I've always admired your work. You've definitely outdone yourself with this retrofit with 06 headlights.

I do sell pre-made brackets, lets you fit E55 brackets without having to do any cutting or tough aiming on your part.
