Haze when painting headlights

Hey everyone.

Just painted my second pair of headlights. And I can't help but notice that the clear lens has fogged up pretty good compared to what it was before I started this project.

Should I bake it again and wipe down the inside of it or something?

Suggestions?

EDIT: It was only one of them.

Sorry, I can't help. How about paint them flat primer black?????

If there's moisture inside take it apart again (or maybe drill a tiny hole to get the humidity stabilized?)

i have painted a few headlights.........i did mine with spray paint...i have noticed the same thing.....this may sound stupid but one of my thoughts about the cause of the haze was that the fumes from the spray paint may be clouding the housing..........so what i did was re-opened them......got some mcguires plast-x polish for plastic along with a foam pad.....and i went to work on the lens....inside and out.......to top it off.....i hit the housing with a coat of clear spray (found in spray paint area as well) to try and see if that helped with the fumes that may be causing the haze......its been about 2 months now and the lights are still looking good......my haze problem.......solved

dont get discouraged....its trial and error when it comes to painting headlights......good luck

yeah the heat from the lights cooked the uncured paint and caused the haze.

To remedy this, I would think you could bake the part you painted (i.e. bezel) alone before reinstalling the lenses. This way, any fumes from the curing would be released before the lenses went on.

there is outside haze from weather elements. then there is the inside haze from either painted housing or used the wrong silicon sealant that caused gassing, both will be impossible to fix back to OEM.

So what is the lesson learned here-- to try and set aside a certain amount of time for the painted bezels to fully cure before reassembling the lights? I guess I got lucky that mine were sitting around for awhile before I put everything back together?

Yep....allow adequate time for them to cure before putting them back together.
