Headlight mystery

So, my high beam is out, but the foglight still works. What's this mean?

OK with the flamesuit snugly fit, I am going to ask a noob question. Don't the high beams and fog light come from the same bulb? I was under the impression that's the case on my 05--H4 bulb.

And does it not have two filaments? That burn out one at a time?

Headlights and highbeams are not in the same bulb, fog lights and high beams are the same blub which is why the OP is confused, why didn't the fog lights burn out along with the highbeam

Yes, the reason I was confused is because they are the same bulb. Would one filament really just burn out? Sounds doubtful. Could part of the ballast have gone out or something? I don't know much about the headlights.

Did this happen on both of your headlights or just one?

This is not rocket science. Infiniti designed the fog/high beam like the older cars that had one unit for headlight/high beam. Therefore it is completely possible, and probably without doubt, that one or the other will burn out first. Since I leave my fogs on all the time with the headlights, in my case it's the fog that burns out first.

Filament lamps do not have ballasts. Yes, it would be very rare for both filaments to burn out at once. One at a time is par for the course.
