Headlights replacement?

Does anyone have feedback on replacing headlights? I have an 04 6mt with the original headlights and I have a feeling they're gonna go soon. Does the entire unit have to be replaced? Seemingly, it's not a matter of simply replacing a bulb...

Thanks!

If your wanting 06+ headlights they are plug and play. You will only need to get DS2 hid bulbs and H1 bulbs for the fog lights. You can use the same ballasts you already have.

yeah, i don't know how else you can do it without taking the headlight off. if you want to replace the whole unit you can. if you want to replace just the bulb itself you can do that too. but if you do, i would replace the left and right bulb at the same time.

I meant they're going to go out sooner or later. for some silly reason, I thought the entire unit had to be replaced.

So I guess it's as easy as replacing the bulb. Thanks!

why are people replacing 04 for 06 headlights? Do they look different? or is 06 just better?

i think the 06 are projectors and the 04 are reflectors. the 04 also has the clearance light running down the side of it while the 06 has it next to the fog light. personally, i like the 06... that's why i put it on my 03

I upgraded to the 06+ projectors also, they look so much nicer. Plus the beam is so clean with that nice cut off. =)

I got an extra set of 06+ projectors for sale. PM me if you want to buy them.

You can find them in the $600 range. Maybe cheaper used if you're lucky.

'04 lights do not have both HID's - one is Halogen

2004 is HID low beam only besides not being a projector light. The '06 style throws a lot more light and a cleaner beam on high.

So your '04 high beam is a halogen bulb added to the HID's, they are not both HID's.

I've had mine for 6 years this month, when the bulbs do go someday or if I just put the change to the head of the line I will get the Bi-Xenon HID's for an '06.

Btw IDK if that is sound advice about using your existing ballasts, since there is only one set of HID lights. They may have been confused with the 2005 vs. 2006 where you could get both HID's on the 2005. Unless there's a second set of ballasts for HID's I don't know about, you're short a set in the '04, or one set serves up both lights, IDK but worth checking into.

Also want to check this little gem before you jump on a set of 2006's other than NIB from OEM (as in used from an '06 subject to this recall)-

Skip to the first person who knows what they are talking about, there is nothing really wrong with the lights: https://g35driver.com/forums/1517249-post20.html
