^ Deftronix, I did this (tapped into the Map light - utilizing this very thread you have a link for last year) for a JDM lighting kit I purchased from Japan for our car (Skyline 350GT), but the lights would not stay on when you were DRIVING. They would come on as stated in that thread when hitting the unlock button on your keyfob and when you turned off the car to get out, but again tapping into the very wires that thread suggests will not allow for the lights to remain on while driving.

Funny enough - just TODAY, I cut the wire taps I had on those wires that thread suggested tapping into and re-tapped the wires for the JDM lighting kit into the dimmer switch for the interior lights (gauges, cd player, hvac, clock, etc). Now the lights will come on when I click on the provided 'on/off' switch for the kit when I'm driving the car. It's very sweet!

I can add another DIY for the JDM ('mood mode' - as Nissan calls it) light kit in another thread.

I didn't get a chance to tap into the rear-view mirror light for the LED "Ambient" or "Moon Lighting" today, but hope to tomorrow with you guys help. I'm attaching a picture of three wires coming out of the rear-view mirror. I need to know which wires I can tap into.

I KNOW I need to tap my black wire into the black wire on the rear-view, but not sure which to tap my RED wire into? I think I would need to tap into the "Black/red stripe" wire.

Please look over the attached picture and anyone that would know for certain - let me know and I'll go test NOW!

Thanks Guys!

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time. In for pics and a DIY.
Are you going to have it turn on automatically with the headlights and dash or will this only turn on manually or be constant?

if i recall correctly the pink/black wire is switched power (meaning it only turns on when the car is on) and the red/black is constant power

^ I guess that means, I'm going to tap into the PINK/BLACK wire so the moon light will only be on when the car is on and running.

Let me see how this goes tomorrow and if it works, I'll start on the DIY with pictures.

Thanks Guys!

^ Me too actually - ever since I saw this in a Jag about 4 years ago!

I personally am going to have it wired into the "switched" power source so that it only comes on when the car is on and running since the LED's I purchased do not have an on off switch.

Glad you are in on this with us. Hopefully I'll have this up and running by tomorrow (hopefully).

Keep checking back for updates!

Thanks Guys!

I'm glad someone finally decided to take this on. I'm not too good with that kind of stuff, but if someone can post up a pictured DIY once they finish, I will definitely be installing my own!

I had it in my Audi, just some dim red LED's that ran when it was dark out, nice ambient light in the front cabin.

My shop wanted to charge me in the range of 75-125 to get this done so I stalled. I don't like electricity and visa-verca lol.

Looking forward to the pics and results WoW.

Didn't read the thread, but I did two LED's in the cupholders, not hard if you know what your doing, Ran them Parallel and had (2) 220 ohm resistors on each positive lead of the LED. Not too hard. I also ran a rocker switch in the plastic jamz under the steering wheel (name please?)

Based on the fact that I have NO idea what you just said, I'm going to have to say I don't know what I'm doing in this case. Hahah

^ LOL - yeah a lot of stuff I've done with this coupe - I would have NO CLUE as to how to do if it weren't for some fantastic DIY's write up's. I hope to do those previously mentioned justice. Please be patient with me though guys, I got some work done in the lighting department yesterday - but it was to finally fix a JDM lighting kit, and I don't get too much time with the coupe like I used to, b/c we now have a 3 yr old and a 8 MONTH old....a baby takes a lot of your "hmmm it's a lazy sunday, what do I want to do - I guess I'll go d*ck off with the car" time away that I used to have tons more of....

I'll try my best to tap into the wires today and see what happens.

Thanks Guys!
