DIY: Installing aftermarket HID's on HID equipped G's.

Sorry for the super duper slow coming write Up. Ive been really busy, life's crazy these days.

I did this mod because ANOTHER one of my factory ballasts took a **** and I'm sick of buying them. They're not cheap. I ordered my set from DDM tuning. They didn't come with mounting brackets, I found out after the fact that they are not included and need to be purchased separately. The bulb size I bought was D2R.

Start with unplugging your battery. The ballasts generate a lot of voltage and could kill you.

These are the tools I used:

Now get your car raised up and on jack stands safely. Remove your wheel.

After that pull all the screws and clips holding your fender liner in, I just did enough to peel the liner back.

This should be the view you have:

Unplug your ballast:

Now clip the ballast wires, make sure to leave enough wire to re-splice them if you ever go back to stock, I just put the dead plug back in the ballast so I didn't lose it.

Now strip the ends of the wires, one is green (ground), one is black (power), they are the same color on both sides.

Now unplug the factory bulb socket and remove the bulb:

Insert the new bulb and plug in the new socket (provided by ddm tuning), I tucked the factory one to the side:

Now plug the 2 wires together that come off the ballast:

Refer back the the 2 wires we stripped, my ddm ballasts didn't come with a signal harness so I had to crimp on 2 female spade connectors, like this:

if you happen to have the signal harness just splice the 2 wires together, I would solder them if I had the harness.
Now its time to insert the wires into the ballast, I used pliers to smash the connectors a little bit to ensure a tight hold:

Now its time to mount the ballasts, I used zip ties for a temporary fix until my brackets come in the mail:

You should be good to try them out, hook your battery back up and test before you put everything back together, if it doesn't work you either a) have the 2 signal wires crossed. b) don't have the battery hooked back up. or c) have faulty ballasts.

I hold no responsibility for damaged equipment or damage to your person. Try this at your own risk. Ill keep checking in to answer any questions you may have.

Good luck, and enjoy.DOMO

Yesterday I drilled holes in the head light cap and poked the wires through the hole and used rtv to seal around the wires. Kind of ghetto, but works great.

i dont understand, what's the point of doing this? replacing oem ballasts for aftermarket? i could see if you were adding an additional kit rather than replacing the current one

Here, Ill quote myself for the cats that failed to read why I did this. The factory ballasts are garbage, I was on my 3rd one, thats ridiculous. I guarantee the DDM ballast will last longer than OEM junk. This isnt for everybody, if youre baller status can afford you to replace these everytime they burn out, then by all means keep changing them out. I dont really care about the cost, Im more sick and tired of taking the tire and fender lining off. Lol. Its more of a laziness thing really...
