LED Tail lights?

Has anyone modded their rear tails with extra leds? I saw a coupe last night that had leds all around the edge of the light. Looked like a custom job cause they were perfectly placed. Any ideas or clues?

Do you have to add a ring in? I was wondering if you could tap the turn signal into the brake. I am going to have the GTR smoked tail look, so I kind of want both rings going at all times.
