Is this guy screwing me...?

Ok so my headlight went out.... My dealer took it back told me because I was missing a fender liner... water came up and shorted the ballast. So I bought a ballast and ended up the ballast was shorted but now he said he had to rewiring everything because the water soaked in. He's had my car for a full week.... he said its ready and to bring $250.00 I fell like I could've just bought a new headlight. Someone let me know !

You could of bought a aftermarket cheapo, in which case you would have to buy a new ballast because they are not sold with headlights.

Considering you took it to a dealer and they are expensive labor. Yes that seems about right. Remember, they go by what the book says as far as labor. If installing a liner takes the mech 20 minutes and the book says an hour. You're getting charged an hour. Add fixing wires, heat shrink and soldering etc....if it was done right.

Same thing happened to me. The cap on the fog/hi beams was loose, with no fender liner, water got in and on top of the ballast. It started a carbon arc on the plug and the light went out. I just took some vinegar and a wire brush, cleaned the plug and the pins real well. Shot it full of contact cleaner and put it back together and it's worked for about 8 months now.

As for the $250, yeah, that's about right for a stealership. $80/hr plus parts.
