HID light, bad ballast or igniter?

I'm having a problem with the HID system on my 2006 G35x (sedan).

The OEM drivers HID light went out. The bulb/filament had a darkened spot on it. I purchased replacement bulbs from Kensun (6000k) and replaced bulbs in both sides. They worked for a week then the drivers side went out again. Thinking it was a bad bulb, I bought Morimoto 5500k from TRS. Went to install it today and drivers side bulb still doesn't work.

When I turn the lights on, there's a very brief (1-2 seconds) clicking/electrical buzzing sound coming from the headlight area and the light flickers for the same time. I have the wheel well guard off with my face right up there and I can't see any shorts nor can I hear where the sound is precisely coming from. The sound/flickering is the same pattern every time I turn the light on. When I leave the light on and wiggle all of the wiring, I can't get the light to flicker.

I had an old ballast that I had taken off years ago and I put it in to see if the result was different, but to no avail (admittedly, that ballast could be bad too).

It's a bad ballast and/or igniter, right? I'm going to buy new ones from TRS, but I don't want to drop $200+ on the parts if it could be something else. Any thoughts? Thanks!
