I'm finishing work on my custom TSX shields. I had to go through about 5 prototypes before getting ones that looked the way I wanted.

Yeah it was really cramped with the E46 Bi-xenon trim. It probably would work better with the single xenon version.

I also damaged part of the chrome paint during the cutting/sanding process. So I decided to paint them silver and it didn't match
real well with the chrome headlight housing. So I have decided to do Hidplanet trim with polished cans.

I can't wait to see your cutoff mods! I sent you a PM btw.

I'm surprised you were even able to fit the bixenon one in there.

I'm also going to be going with the hidplanet chrome ring. Not sure if I'm going to put the E46 bixenon shroud behind that, or do the polished aluminum sheets.

I'll reply to your PM tonight, too busy right now.

The custom shields reduce the rainbow. I didn't really like the flares in the beam pattern, and the rainbow didn't give me much color when I looked at them head one.

But the cutoff is really sharp now.

how'd you get a straight glass tube to fit in - isn't the clearance strip curved a bit?

Not the bottom of the reflector assembly. I had to cut up the lens to make it fit though.

The best fitment I could find is about 10.5" long and slightly curved dual CCFL... but like you said not a "drop in".

To be honest with you I dont think making custom tubes will be worth it. The lens disperses the light so you can't tell it is a straight tube. If I really wanted to I could have stuck another CCFL tube in there but I think its bright enough. You basically have to cut the lens in half to get it to fit so again this is not an average joe type of mod.

What about two smaller ccfl tubes (4"), thin enough that they may "drop in"?

I was actually thinking about using the same white LED I have in now but also use fiber optic cable for better dispersion. It would be more expensive than ccfl, but flexible and possibly "drop in" literally.

I tried LEDs I used 24 hi flux amber LEDs and it didnt look that great. I scrapped it and went with CCFL. it is MUCH brighter and evenly dispersed vs the hot spots LEDs give out.

I wonder if we could just poke a hole from the stock HID housing to bring the xenon light into the clearance fixture......

I'm interested in this. With the light assembly off, what else is required to get the thin CCFL tubes to fit in? Can small ones be inserted from the stock opening? Or is cutting a requirement regardless of tube size? It would be great to know how many mm diameter the clearance strip is...
