taking apart headlights

i was wondering if removing the reflector pieces in front of the bulbs would be a bad idea... what i am trying to achieve is a brighter beam and more spread out.. since the reflector focuses the lgiht and reflects it back into the housing but removing that super brightness to the whole aspect, i figure removing that reflector will remove the hampering on the brightness...

am i wrong? bad idea?

ps: remember i dont care about blinding people, etc, i want the looks

you will not achieve a more brighter beam b/c it will not be as focused. The light will be more spread out, but it will be sloppy and all over the place. When standing in front of the car, the beam will appear brighter, but it's useless. The beam will not travel far and you will lose visibility. You should care about blind people btw... People like you are what we call @$$holes, and don't give a $hit about anyone else. I hope someone blinds the hell out of you one night and you have a fit about it.

Cliff notes: No, you're wrong about brighter lights... and you're a dumbass.

you know not everyone has the same tastes in cars and what they want to achieve... plenty of people in my area have super bright light set ups... doesnt bother me, i dont live in the boonies, there is plenty of light from buildings and streetlights to make me less sensitive to bright headlights

so get over it, i bet you are the same people that think doing illegal tint on your car is also "bad", or not having your front license plate on

No but we do abide by the law here at G35driver, and blinding people is a bad idea, besides what "looks" do you get when you can't see anything but blue glare?

well isn't that what I was trying to figure out? what the effects would be and how dramatic? I was hoping that the light would be more spread out, sort of like an open housing light like the Chevy Tahoe and when people have HID bulbs in them it's looks amazing and lights up the road real well.

Hmmm... I do recall people setting up quad beam projectors that utilize 2 hd projectors that are hella bright. Most of the people on here that retrofit these lamps tend to claim to get ticketed for having such bright a$$ lights, and most of us commend them for having such a bright and unique setup. Pavelpg just worded things wrong, you really did not have to say you did not care about blinding other, and Shipseki, you did not have to bust his chops like that. haha whatever, both of you need a timeout.

Let's clarify a few things before we start talking about projectors in this mix. Afterall, many of us want brighter lights.

1. The OP is suggesting that removing the glare shield on the stock reflectors will increase light output.

This is very reminiscent of this thread:
https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=shield

The goal is to have more controlled light. Not just more light shooting in any direction. Like I said in that thread, I could drive around with my TL bixenons in high beam mode 100% of the time. Or all of us could drive with high beams on. You'll realize that you don't necessarily see the road in front of you better. But you'll enrage alot of other motorists. You'll notice that people who do these kinds of mods never post a pic of their beam pattern 25-100 feet away from a wall.

Just to illustrate the point, here's some shots that I just took using a stock G35 HID reflector with some stock bulbs.

The glare without the shield is bad. Very bad. I couldn't even capture all of it with one shot of the camera, so I had to readjust the positioning of the light and camera.

Glare is another way of describing light that is not going where you want. You still have the basic beam pattern, but there is so much stray light that shoots up. When you're driving, you eyes are focused on the road ahead of you. NOT at the trees 30-50feet off the ground. Glare does not help you see the road better.

I also put a D2S bulb in there, as it seems that different people also come up with that idea for increasing light output from time to time. I'll let you decide whether or not it's an upgrade.

2. Now we're also talking about projectors, which in general are brighter than reflectors. BUT, projectors do a much better job focusing the light. There's a big difference between bright focused light vs. just plain bright scattered light. Which person with retrofitted projectors has recieved a ticket?

Here's my TSX projectors. Again, the light is focused, and not aimed at the trees and other drivers' eyes.

And the TLs:

wow.. nice demo man!

what does the headlight look like when the reflector is taken off? does it look like the whole thing is glowing as opposed to kind of dim and reflected off the back?

Projectors produce FAR less glare than reflectors, as seen in E.K's excellent demo. When aimed properly, the Quad projectors are perfectly LEGAL, as they do not produce glare and the color temperature remain stock while having excellent visibility.
