aftermartket HID
as you all know, aftermartket hids will be banned after 8/15.. so im trying to get my hands on a set. i own a sedan and im not sure what brand i want to go with. i called the local shop today and they told me that phillips HIDs have had alot of problems. he recommanded me "evolution"($350 plus install)? ive never heard of that brand before. the guy also told me, for a lil more money i can get the panasonic HIDs(490 plus install).
it would help A LOT if you guys can give me some feedback asap!!! thanks!

Re: aftermartket HID
Go with Catz. I have a set that is still new in blue for $450 + shipping. Evolution is a Taiwanese made HID.........stay away from them. As for Panasonic.........well, you figure it out........what are they well-known for? Not HIDs. Go with either Catz or Raybrig............Raybrig costing about $900 though.
Re: aftermartket HID
I have a set from Eagle Eye the ballast are from Hella which is one of the best, Hella ballast are used by BMW and Benz maybe the HID capsule is japanese but I'm not sure I have them for about 5 month with no problems I installed them by myself.
I bought them from Ebay the email is Solano1082@aol.com I paid 370.00 shipping included he has 6000k and 7000k.

Re: aftermartket HID
Huh??? Why would aftermarket HIDs be banned?
I have not heard this. My 2003 G35 does not have the
HID option. I looked into upgrading the low beams.
That would cost around $450. So if I don't upgrade
now, it will be illegal to do it later? That sucks!

Re: aftermartket HID
Seems that there are to many damn ricers with the aftermarket HID's so it has been brought to the attention of NHTSA, so on and after 8/15 vendors will be fined $5,000 per day for selling aftermarket HID kits.

Here's a link: Googl e search

Re: aftermartket HID
what happens if you own them and have owned them prior to 8/15?

IMHO, the Philips and Catz kits are the best. There is a reason most knock-off kits try to look like Philips kits and bulbs. Try hid-online.com. (don't forget the dash) They sell genuine Philips kits and the price includes 48 hour shipping and a couple of freebies. Philips has a direct link from their website to hid-online's website. I'm still debating but I'm planning on getting the H1 kit from them. (Gotta do it soon though.)

Re: aftermartket HID
Jaymes,
The low beams for the G are indeed H1's.
You may be able to get them off of ebay after the 15th. NHTSA probably won't go after anyone on ebay but you should also remember that there are a lot of kits on ebay that claim to be philips, for instance, that aren't. Be careful if you go on ebay.

I don't know if they will be shut down or not. liteswap.com stopped selling their kits a week ago though.
I just ordered a Philips kit from hid-online.com. They also confirmed the ban on sales after 8/15.
