Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

you need to get bulbs that have been converted to fit the h1 housing. the company you bought them from should have replacement bulbs.. if not.. try http://www.mccullochhid.com/ or proxenon.com. they might have just the bulbs for sale... good luck.. i converted too... no matter what you do, short of actually getting custom projectors installed, you won't get anything that looks like bmw or audi. you'll just get really bright headlights... so try not to expect a look just like those other cars... they use a different kind of headlamp housing than ours.

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

You should be able to replace the bulb with a lower kelvin rating. You have 2 obstacles:
1. The bulb must be "rebased" for an H1 application. The 9000K bulb you have currently has been rebased for an H1 application.
2. The rebased bulb must have the right wiring harness/connectors to work with your current ballasts/ignitors. I'm pretty sure that the different manufacturers use different wiring harnesses.

I might suggest asking the shop you got your kit at if they have lower rated capsules (bulbs) with the same wiring harness. If they do, all you would have to do is change out the capsules and hook it up to the original ballasts.

If they don't you could probably get replacement bulbs and perhaps get an electrician to re-wire the new bulbs to your existing wiring harness.

$150 is about right for a decent capsule. I would suggest getting one from Philips or Catz.

Color: I just got a Philips 4100K kit and have the opposite problem. They are supposed to be pure white but they are yellow. I would suggest something in the area of 5000-6000K.

I believe the D2S are usually made for projector lenses and the D2R's are designed for reflector assemblies. I don't think it really matters which one you get as long as they have been rebased properly. I think the D2S bulbs are slightly brighter though.

Hope this helps. I dont' know the situation regarding your purchase of the kit (online, store, etc.) However, anyone selling 9000K kits should have warned you that the light output on those are not that great and that they are mostly for show.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

So basically you are asking how to change the bulbs with you current HID conversion.

Simple answer is just to get a D2R or DS2 bulb and put them in your conversion. You can tell what type of bulb you have by looking at them. D2R bulbs have some type of metal or paint to block light from emitting from one side of the bulb. They are usually found in non reflective housing, such as the G35's. D2S bulbs are just the opposite. You really can use either bulb in your HID housing with a notch modification. Usually use a dremel to create the notch.

Just to let you know the difference between the 9k and 6k bulb is not much. It will still be dark, but will be a lot bluer than stock. Unfortunately our G's can not look like the projector systems on the BMW's or Audi's. If you want your lighting to be brighter I suggest using the stock HID 4K bulbs. It's up to you, if you want to see well get the 4k bulb or if you want blue looking headlights get the 6k bulb and have blue vision. Nothing wrong with both choices, it's a matter of preference.

That's horrible man, I'm sorry you're not happy with your install. I know since you own a G you will do something you like with it :0

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

I have a conversion kit on my Sedan, Hella ballast with light Capsules between 6000-7000k, aprox 3000lumens, they look more like Lexus, most of BMW uses projectors headlights thats why they look different. But mine are very bright, your problem is that higher Kelvins =more color but less lumens.
You have to replace your capsules with a lower kelvin capsule make sure is a H1 conversion capsules and that fit your Kit plugs.

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

Yah. The kit will just fit into the current housing you have wether it is h1 or h3 or whatever. Here is a link to give you an idea what you will need. http://www.suvlights.com/

They use to list what you will need, but took them off their site and request that you call them.

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

I'm not sure where you will mount the ballest. It will be up to you. There is plenty of room in the bumper area. I'm not sure if the lights would match either, but I'm pretty sure they will be close in color unless you get a 6k bulb or higher.

Re: PLEASE HELP-- HID

when i did the conversion.. i ziptied the ballasts to the reinforement beam right inside the bumper.. it's maid of aluminum, so it should be ok. just make sure you don't "ground" the ballast... that could be real bad. the ignitor was small enough to just zip tie along with the rest of the wire harness... there's room... but further away from the headlight housing... so it really depends on how much wire length you have. you might have to get pretty creative otherwise.
