If you want a headon shot:

Easiest route is 06 lights. Best route is up to you to decide.

Sorry to highjack the thread but I have to ask.

Wrah: What bezel and projectors are those?

E_K: If those are TL BI-xenons in the lower housing, how did you wire the solenoids to work? I know for those upgrading to G35C '06 projectors, they're bi-xenons which are plug and play. Any insights?

Great work to the both of you!

wrah is using HIDplanet bezels and E46 bezels. Pretty ingenious.

Yes, those are TL bixenons. You can do the wiring a couple of ways, but I used a dedicated H4 harness to draw power directly off the car battery. For the 03-05 lights, the basic idea is this:

stock H4 for the fog/high has 3 wires.
black is ground, hook that up to the negative of the solenoid and of the HID ballast (not the stock low beam ballast, but the new ballast that you'll need for the second projector)

positive of fog beam goes to positive of HID ballast

positive of high beam goes to positive of solenoid

For the solenoid, I also put in a 10W 10ohm resistor on each side, to drop the voltage down to maybe 9V. The solenoids still open super fast, but in theory this will help prevent them from burning out.

You'll need a diode going from positive of high beam to positive of fog beam. This way, when you turn on the high beam (activate the solenoid), the fog beam (HID bulb) will still stay on. With the H4 harness that I have, it has a diode built in.

Then I put two more diodes in to the stock + fog and +high beam. Supposedly when you deactivate the solenoids, then can send a surge backwards, which can damage your stock headlight switches. This will prevent those surges from reaching your stock electronics.

All this required quite a bit of soldering. I hate soldering and opening headlights, otherwise I'd do retrofits for everyone all the time.

Great info E_K. Since you've experimented with a lot of different projectors, do you think E46 bi-xenon will fit in the upper oval of '03-05 headlights and E46 single projector fit in the lower? Budget wise, that's what I'm leaning towards.

The E46 bixenon might fit. But there's not too much room in that area. TLs definitely would not fit in the low beam area, unless you're willing to cut up your housing.

If you're on a budget, I'd recommend TSX low beams and RS6 bixenons. FX45 and murano bixenons are also good if you can find them.

I haven't been super impressed with the E46 projectors, unless you're talking about the ZKWs, but then those are more expensive.

gdragon used E46 bi, and with a cut bezel they fit perfect.

I used HIDPLANET.com's trim ring with 3"e46 bezels
