WTB-05 Sedan Headlight ballast

Hey all, I had a ballast go out on one of my 05 sedan headlights. If anyone has an extra they would like to sell please PM me or post up in this thread. I'll be checking back regularly.

^ How much are you looking to spend? You may get 'em cheaper on Driver or my350z, but may have to wait awhile.

The ballasts are usually available on HidPlanet, though the prices may be slightly higher (think $100/pair or so). You're looking for Matsushita Gen3 D2S ballasts btw. My eyes have bled from all the recent researching on HidP. Don't ask why, tho

I found a few on ebay used that started between $70 w/o the igniter up to $125 for the ballast/igniter combo. Might go that route, I don't want to drive around for a month without a headlight.

I was hoping someone might have one laying around. I'm also posting up on the Austin and Houston boards for more exposure.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check out HIDPlanet, do they sell aftermarket pieces or OEM? Are there potential issues with aftermarket pieces if that's what they have?

PS. When did you get promoted to staff? Major congrats!!!!!!

I have my old headlight from when I got into an accident. The guts should be okay. From an 03 though. Would that work?

The site on ebay I was looking at says it would, but weren't the 03 lights non-HID? Would that require a different ballast? If you'd be willing to pull it and send it to me, I'd gladly try it and pay you if it works. You down for that? What would you want for it? If it didn't work I'd send it right back and pay for your initial shipping.

^ Whoops, I'm sorry, I looked up here

http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

and plugged in a 2005 G35 - looks like you use D2R. Don't want to lead you astray. I'll get Tony (Vstyle09) to get in here or PM you - he did a projector retro into his 05 sedan and knows his stuff.

I'd stay with OEM ballasts like Matsushita over an aftermarket ballast like DDMTuning or Morimoto but some people prefer to save cash. OEM tho has so much $$$$ into research so they're pretty much bulletproof.....except yours that blew out ....HidP is a forum - the members sell whatever they have leftover from retrofit projects.

^ I don't think so - unless Blue switched all 4 ballasts/bulbs. Using that Sylvania lamp replacement guide shows the 03's are different than the 05+'s

Jeff, I just got off the phone with Austin Infiniti and they told me the halogen 03 headlights don't have a ballast so it's probably a no go.

Can you check your bulb Tim? Does it say either D2R or D2S on it? For some reason I thought 05/06 G35's would be the same in headlight equipment like so many other areas.

Thanks Peter, the Sylvania site didn't show ballasts, just bulbs. I think I'm just going to go the ebay route and get a used OEM. It'ss be lass than $100 so no biggie. Better than $500 that's for sure.

My bulb is a D2R but a D2S (projector bulb) will work as well in our lights.

Sorry for anyone else that's been following - have confirmation that the OEM Matsushita Gen3 ballast (if your G35 uses HID ballasts) uses both D2S and D2R bulbs. It's printed on the freakin' ballast lol.......my bad.

I have the (optional on the 03) HID headlights. I definately have a ballast.

Just don't know if the 03s use the same ballast as the 05s.

Then I bet yours would work. Infiniti uses the same ballast from 04-11 on all HIDs including projectors. I'd be willing to send you a deposit if you wanted me to if you would send it out to let me try. It would help if you sent the igniter as well, I'd hate to get the ballast and have it be the cable.
